Criteria

• For students who have completed a Foundation course at Kent with International Programmes and are progressing onto an undergraduate degree at the University in September 2024.

• Paid in three equal termly instalments into the successful candidates' bank accounts.

• Open to all 2023-24 Foundation Year and International Foundation Programme (IFP) students from International Programmes only (applicants must have studied the module FOUN0036/FOUN1036 during the 2023-24 academic year).

• Scholarships will be awarded based on a combination of student’s final academic grades, attendance and engagement on the Foundation Year/IFP, tutor references, and the strength of applicant’s essay.

International Programmes has developed a range of scholarships to support our foundation students when progressing onto undergraduate study. These awards are part of Kent’s efforts to support excellence in academia and to reward student’s efforts in transitioning onto a degree via a foundation year. They are designed to help students to focus on their progression in the knowledge that excellent attendance and engagement throughout the Foundation Year/IFP will be rewarded alongside academic achievement.

These scholarships provide a £3,750 cash payment (via bank transfer), payable in three lump sums across the 2024-25 academic year. A total of 8 awards will be available under this scheme for entry in September 2024.

Scholarship value : £1,000 per annum for each year of study (subject to satisfactory academic progress). For a maximum of 4 years.

Number of scholarships available: Up to 49.

Deadline

The deadline to apply for the Partner Scholarship is 31st August 2024. Applicants must also firmly accept an offer from the University of Kent before the 31st August 2024 deadline.

Criteria

You can apply for a Partner Scholarship if you are a current or former* student:

• At a University of Kent Partner School or College**

• On the University Entrance Diploma programme at the University of Kent

You must also be a UK student and have applied to the University of Kent for an Undergraduate programme (2024 entry) which requires the payment of full fees.

When selecting students to nominate for a Partner Scholarship, school and college staff will use the following criteria. Successful students must demonstrate in their application that they:

• Have an interest in studying programmes offered by the University of Kent (i.e. the partner scholarship should not be the determining factor in choosing to study at the University of Kent).

• Ideally have visited the University and/or engaged in preparatory activity offered by the University (to ensure that they have some broad awareness of what to expect as a student at Kent).

• Have applied to the University through the UCAS school or college centre.

• Have made a sustained contribution to their school/college and/or their local community. (It is not a condition of the partner scholarship that, as undergraduates, students will return to their former schools. However it would be advantageous if students progressing into HE were inclined to be involved in such work).

• Are well motivated and engaged with learning.

• Are reflective in their learning.

• Have a good attendance record.

Applicants must also make a firm acceptance of an offer made to them by the University before the 31 August 2024.

The University of Kent, in partnership with the Article 26 Project offers each year up to five Sanctuary Scholarships for undergraduate entry. These awards are aimed at helping those seeking asylum in the UK to progress to higher education. The benefits of the Sanctuary Scholarship award are:

• Each recipient’s tuition fees will be waived for the duration of their programme of study or until they are able to access Student Finance England funding at the University of Kent (undergraduate programmes only).

• The recipients will be eligible to receive financial support from the University of Kent to cover the cost of travel (to the University or for group support), books, equipment, etc. This is a bursary payment of £2000 at the start of the academic year.

• The Students will be allocated an Adviser from Student Services to support them during their studies and to help access any support services and this will be a chance to check in and get extra support when or if it is needed.

Criteria

To meet the eligibility criteria of the Award, applicants must:

• Have refugee status, be an asylum seeker or the partner/dependent of an asylum seeker; OR an asylum seeker/partner/dependent who has been granted Discretionary Leave to Remain (DLR) or some other form of temporary status.

• Have a conditional or unconditional offer of undergraduate study from the University of Kent, having applied through UCAS (the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service).

• Be currently attending a school, college, community or voluntary group which can provide a reference in support of their application.

• Not have access to mainstream funding, e.g. student finance or a local authority grant.

• Live within commuting distance of the University of Kent (i.e. within the county of Kent).

• Be able to cover their own living expenses and accommodation costs.

Unfortunately the following courses are not currently available on the Sanctuary Scholarship at Kent: Courses dependent on NHS funding, Dentistry, Foundation degree programmes, Medicine and Pharmacy.

The Scholarship window for the next academic year closes on 30th April, 2024. Returning Scholar applications for 2024/25 scheme will open in the summer of 2024. 

Criteria

• Scholarships are available to elite sportsmen and women from any sport who compete (at least) at county level or equivalent.

• Sports Scholars should be committed to representing the University of Kent in British University & College Sport (BUCS) competition and join their relevant student club.

• Sports Scholarships are open to new undergraduate and postgraduate applicants, as well as current University of Kent students. 

• The Kent & Medway Medical School offer exclusive Sports Scholarships to their students and have a different application route on their webpage. (See note below)

• Please view the detailed FAQ section within the Sports Scholarship webpage for a breakdown of application criteria and expectations of the scheme. 

It is not necessary to wait for an offer of a place before submitting your application, however your application will be checked against a valid UCAS number. Applicants should also note that the offer of a Sports Scholarship does not carry with it the offer of a place and all students are subject to the normal course tuition fees.

Scholarship value : One scholarship worth £2,000 per annum (or pro-rata for part-time students) for the duration of the recipient's degree programme.

• One scholarship is available each year.

• Both full-time and part-time students are eligible to apply.

• Home and Overseas students are eligible to apply.

To be eligible to apply for the scholarship, applicants must:

• Have attained A*AA from three A Levels or a specified equivalent*.

• Be entering Stage 1 of their undergraduate degree in September 2024.

• Have made their application to the University of Kent via UCAS.

• Have made a firm acceptance to study at Kent by 31 August 2024.

Applicants not eligible to apply for the scholarship are those:

• Who have attained any qualification higher than A Level or equivalent.

• Who are in receipt of need-based financial aid.

• Who are current students at The University of Kent.

• Who are applying to Medway School of Pharmacy

• Who are applying to Kent and Medway Medical School (KMMS)

The scholarship will not be paid during a Year Abroad or a Year in Industry placement.
